REGINA -- Receivers Chris Getzlaf and Rob Bagg and offensive linemen Brendon LaBatte and Dominic Picard all signed contract extensions to remain with the Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. Getzlaf, Bagg and Picard are under contract to the CFL club through the 2015 season while LaBattes deal covers the 2016 campaign. Getzlaf, 30, a Regina native, has played his entire seven-year CFL career with the Riders. Getzlaf had 63 catches for 1,045 yards and seven TDs during the regular season before adding three receptions for 78 yards in being named the top Canadian in Saskatchewans 45-23 Grey Cup win over Hamilton. Bagg, 28, of Kingston, Ont., completed his sixth season with Saskatchewan, registering 34 catches for 430 yards and four TDs. Bagg enters the 2014 campaign with 168 career receptions for 2,365 yards and 12 touchdowns. LaBatte, of Weyburn, Sask., was the CFLs top lineman this year as well as a league all-star. The former University of Regina star was selected in the first round, sixth overall, by Winnipeg in the 2008 CFL draft. Picard, 31, of Ste-Foy, Que., joined the Riders as a free agent following the 2012 season. He started all 18 regular-season games and the clubs three post-season contests. The Senators try to snap a seven-game losing streak to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday evening. Senators defenceman Jared Cowan will be a healthy scratch again. “It sucks,” Cowan told the Ottawa Citizen. “I’ve just got to be better. I need a better start and better consistency.” You can catch all of the action LIVE on TSN5 and TSN Radio 1200 at 7pm et. Coverage gets underway on TSN Radio 1200 at 5:30pm et. Ottawa went 2-1-0 on a season-opening road trip, capping the swing with a 1-0 win over the Florida Panthers. Clarke MacArthur scored the games only goal at the 15:34 mark of the second period and Craig Anderson ended with 30 saves for his 27th career shutout. It was huge for us, as a group, to follow it up with two wins, Anderson said, referring to a season-opening loss in Nashville. Thats what it comes down to. You have to figure out how to win. Anderson has done that versus Florida, improving to 11-2-1 against his former club. That may have earned him another start tonight as the Senators kick off a four-game homestand. Anderson, though, has struggled when facing the Avalanche, who he also once played for. In three starts against them, he is 0-2-1 with a 6.35 goals against average and .826 save percentage. Thee Senators have not beaten the Avalanche since Dec.dddddddddddd 12, 2005 in Colorado. They have not beaten the club at home since March 18, 2004, losing four straight as the host in this series. Colorado resumes a stretch of five of six on the road to start the season, a span that ends on Saturday versus Montreal. The Avalanche fell to 1-2-1 on the season with a 3-2 overtime loss to Toronto on Tuesday. The Maple Leafs Phil Kessel scored 34 seconds into the extra session. He retrieved a puck in the Colorado zone, had a step on Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie as he cut to the front of the net and swept the puck underneath Semyon Varlamov. Ryan OReilly and Matt Duchene both scored their first goals of the season for Colorado. Varlamov stopped 37 shots and Jarome Iginla had two assists for his first points with the Avs. Obviously in the third they had maybe more gas than we had, but overall I thought we played a good game, said Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy. Roy declared Varlamov a game-time decision tonight against the Senators as the netminder deals with a groin issue. Varlamov is 2-2-1 with a 3.21 GAA and .899 save percentage in five previous meetings with the Senators. If Varlamov cant play, Reto Berra will start for the Avalanche. Forward John Mitchell will return to the Avalanche lineup tonight after missing the previous four games with a head injury.
